What is Business Intelligence?

When someone speaks about data analysis and visualization, including the buzzwords presented in the diagram on left side, the term Business Intelligence (BI) almost always appears.

So what does the BI means?

According to Gartner IT Glossary, BI could be considered as the umbrella term that includes the applications, infrastructure and tools, and best practices that enable access to and analysis of information to improve and optimize decisions and performance.

We also are going follow the common agenda and consider the topics of data analysis and visualization through the prism of Business Intelligence.

The major work of gathering together all the related methodologies, governance practices, and software tools is already made by Forrester Research, Inc. and presented in its architectural landscape of the BI Stack.

However, we won’t go through the all described layers and components in future articles, but focus on the topics in the presented list, in which we have more expertise and research results.
